In 1972, the United Nations General Assembly established the World Environment Day on June 5. Today we find that awareness of the environment is spreading, and it is essential to know how to collaborate in each area of our life, including driving.
In recent years, automotive technology has been constantly evolving, however, the way of driving has remained unchanged. For this reason, eco-driving or sustainable driving comes to balance this situation, providing a new driving style in accordance with modern technologies.
Benefits of Sustainable Driving
More efficient driving contributes to reducing fuel consumption, polluting emissions and also helps to achieve more environmentally friendly mobility.
Therefore, adopting good driving practices offers many benefits for the vehicle, the owner, and the environment. Some of the main points are:
- Fuel consumption reductions: greater efficiency in vehicle consumption is associated with cost savings and a reduction in polluting emissions into the atmosphere.
- Reduction of maintenance costs: more efficient and eco-driving also entails a reduction in maintenance costs.
- Reduction of CO2 emissions: efficient driving also entails a reduction of CO2 emissions and other pollutants into the environment.
Best Practices for Improving Consumption Efficiency and Achieve Sustainable Driving
Carrying an efficient consumption in your vehicle will be possible with a very simple precautions to put into practice:
1.Follow a Scheduled Maintenance.
Checking the oil, engine settings, and possible parts wear will not only help maximize the life and performance of your vehicle, it will also improve fuel efficiency.
Carrying out a regular vehicle maintenance is essential to ensure a balance between the good condition of your car and its emissions. A well-maintained car engine is a more efficient engine, which reduces emissions.
But, although the engine is the heart of our vehicle, we must not overlook elements such as the tires. Checking your pressure and condition will ensure proper performance. Otherwise, under inflated tires will increase vehicle’s drag resulting in higher fuel consumption due to the need to generate more power to move.
2. Turn off your ignition during prolonged stops (more than 60 seconds).
More and more vehicles are equipped with the Start and Stop system for greater efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption up to 5% according to the European driving cycle.
However, if your vehicle does not have it, it is highly recommended to turn off the ignition at stops longer than 60 seconds because if the engine is running, it is consuming fuel. The engine doesn’t care if the car is in gear and moving or sitting still and idling.
3.Always carry out the driving with anticipation and foresight.
Try to have a smooth ride ahead of time to avoid sudden braking or unnecessary maneuvers. This will make your driving safer and help reduce emissions.
Proactive driving aims to anticipate possible hazards and take action to reduce, minimize or avoid danger before it can occur.
DOLZ, committed to Sustainability and the Environment
In a sector in which caring for the environment occupies a more and more relevant place, it is essential to acquire a commitment to the environment that surrounds us. At Dolz we are committed to protecting and improving the environment, being one of the fundamental axes of our Corporate Social Responsibility Plan.
For this reason, we are certified with the ISO 14001:2015 SGA – Environmental Management System at our plant in Castellón (Spain), which has facilities of 25,000 m2. Added to ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, which the manufacturing plant also has.
Both standards are world benchmarks on environmental and quality management.
ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System Standard
One of the main benefits of implementing an Environmental Management System based on ISO 14001 international standard is obtaining maximum rationality in production processes, in relation to conservation, improvement and protection of the environment.
This international standard, dedicated to environmental management, is responsible for the company (regardless of its size and / or sector) not only taking into account the impacts caused on the environment but also achieving continuous improvement regarding the minimization of the environmental impact of its activity. For this reason, it allows to adopt a perspective and management of life cycle of the products, activities and services provided and thus achieve a great control of the ecological impact.
Environmental management is a key function that entails a commitment to the conservation of the environment, promoting a more efficient use of raw materials, waste management and environmental risks and also not contributing to the production of new non-recoverable waste.
